Cooling Systems for Marine Winches
Business situation
Our customer had a short timescale to supply eight cooling skids for a drag brake on a Pipe Laying Ship.
Technical situation
The cooling systems had to have a high heat dissipation with a large air blast cooler. The system was to be stand alone with the electrical panel and all components mounted in a marine transportable frame.
Solution
Torishima designed, manufactured, tested and dispatched all eight units within the 5 weeks delivery timescale. The frames were made of steel and were coated to withstand the marine environment. They were also load tested. The system comprised of a large stainless-steel reservoir, centrifugal pump, air blast cooler and electrical control panel. The reservoir was fitted with a heater, temperature switches and a level switch. A pressure switch was fitted to the units outlet pipework to ensure fluid was at a pressure that would give sufficient flow to the drag brake.
The pipework was stainless steel and was lagged against the cold weather. Hoses were supplied for onsite connection to the Drag Brakes.
