Following on from our previous news items, we are on a campaign to use less oil; as it costs money to replace and dispose, and affects the environment; with its production and disposal.
Particle counters monitor the cleanliness of the oil, which is good for system reliability, and they also may give an idea of the water content. However, they do not tell you the condition of the oil and whether the additive package is in a good condition or whether the viscosity has changed. Taking an oil sample and sending it to a reputable lab will give you the information you need. Trending the oil analysis can show degradation vs time and allow you predict when an oil will need changing.
The cost of oil analysis is low when compared to replacing and disposing of hydraulic oil.
