Hydraulic Data Logging

Hydraulic data loggers have been around since I joined the industry, nearly 30 years ago. At that time they proved invaluable for troubleshooting problems on the steel mill, where I worked at the time. The data logger gave a print out of the pressure trace and this was useful in the day. Now hydraulic data loggers can give you the real time information on screen or on your PC and it can be saved for analysis later.

Collecting data for fault finding or understanding a hydraulic system operation is vital. Merely looking at a pressure gauge will not show up systems spikes, timings and the duty cycle. How do you know how well the system is operating if you don't have the data?

In the MGR Fluid Power days we used data logging to quantify the issue with an excavator arm, which was vibrating. We could clearly see from the trace when the problem was happening and were able provide a solution. On another occasion as vehicle was not performing and we installed a flow meter, data logged the duty cycle and concluded the pump was faulty. Without a data logger we would have never fully understood these problems.

We have a number of data loggers that help us and our customers with their hydraulic systems.
